Whether it is your first time or 100th time picking with us, these U-Pick tips will help make your visit enjoyable. Do you have another tip? Share in the comments!
Before You Arrive:
We recommend wearing whatever makes you comfortable out in the fields, though we have many customers pick in their work attire, including high heels.
For best results, we suggest close-toed, comfortable shoes. We do have a variety of Brookside Farms shirts available for purchase if find yourself in need.
Sunscreen and bug repellent are always a good idea. This is a good time to wear a hat to keep that sun off your face (and shoulders, if you so choose).
We love our pets and we know you love yours, but we do not allow pets in the fields. Please make arrangements for your pet to remain at home or in the care of someone else.
When You Arrive:
When you arrive, please check in at the store. Our staff will supply you with official Brookside Farms buckets equipped with removable liners. When you are done picking for the day, the Brookside Farms staff will weigh the berries (scales are calibrated to account for the weight of the bucket and liner). The bucket liners lift out to help easily transport their freshly-picked berries.
Blueberries grow in clusters. Green berries are not ripe and are not tasty. Deep blue, ripe berries will practically come off the clusters at a touch.
If you are with a group, have fun! Create a contest to see who can pick the most berries, the biggest berry, or who has the most blueberry-stained fingers at the end of your U-Pick adventure. Feel free to take pictures and share them with the world on our Facebook page or via an old-fashioned print!
In season, the fields are open for U-Pick, weather and availability permitting. Picking wet berries is not a good idea.
As much as we would like to have your favorite kind of blueberry on hand for picking all season long, U-Pick varieties are subject to availability. We have multiple varieties “ready” throughout the season, but field conditions change rapidly and make it a challenge for us to keep everyone informed via advertising.
Last but not least, we hope that you come to our farms and enjoy your time. Please have fun and let us know if there is any way we can make your experience even better.
